# Cimbri and Teutons (-113)

The Cimbri and Teutons migrated south from Jutland and the North Sea coast and in 113 BCE crushed a Roman army at Noreia. Over the next decade they won several more victories, most devastatingly at Arausio in 105 BCE. Rome finally destroyed the Teutons at Aquae Sextiae in 102 BCE and the Cimbri at Vercellae in 101 BCE under Gaius Marius.

## Why it matters
It was Rome's first terrifying encounter with Germanic peoples and led to reforms of the Roman army.
