# Oppidum of Manching (-300)

The oppidum of Manching near Ingolstadt grew into one of the largest Celtic towns of the La Tène period, enclosed by a seven-kilometre wall. Its craftsmen minted coins and worked iron, glass and bronze on a large scale. In 1999 a hoard of nearly 500 Celtic gold coins was found there.

## Why it matters
It demonstrates the sophisticated urban culture of the Celts in southern Germany.
