# Goseck Circle (-4900)

Around 4900 BCE Neolithic people built a circular enclosure of ditches and palisades at Goseck with gates aligned to the winter solstice sunrise and sunset. Rediscovered through aerial photography in 1991, it is one of the oldest known circular enclosures in Europe. It likely served ritual and calendrical purposes for an early farming community.
