# Caesar Bridges the Rhine (-55)

In 55 BCE Caesar's engineers built a timber bridge across the Rhine in about ten days. He crossed with his legions to intimidate the Germanic tribes, then withdrew and destroyed the bridge. He repeated the feat in 53 BCE.

## Why it matters
It was a demonstration of Roman engineering and power on Germany's border.
