# Linear Pottery Culture (-5500)

Around 5500 BCE farming communities spread into Central Europe from the Danube basin, bringing cereals, cattle and permanent villages of large timber longhouses. Named for the banded decoration of their pots, the Linear Pottery people settled the fertile loess soils of Germany within a few centuries. Their arrival marked the Neolithic revolution in the region.

Farming and village life replaced the hunter-gatherer way of life across Germany.
