# Speyer Cathedral (1030)

Around 1030 Conrad II began building Speyer Cathedral as a dynastic burial church. It became the largest Romanesque church in the world. Eight emperors and kings are buried there.

## Why it matters
It is a UNESCO-listed symbol of imperial power in the High Middle Ages.
