# Wendish Crusade (1147)

In 1147, alongside the Second Crusade, Saxon, Danish and Polish princes launched a crusade against the pagan Wends east of the Elbe. It achieved little militarily but accelerated German eastward expansion. Albert the Bear and Henry the Lion soon conquered Slavic territories.

## Why it matters
It opened the way to German settlement of Brandenburg and Mecklenburg.
