# Battle of Saule (1236)

On 22 September 1236 Samogitians and Semigallians annihilated the Livonian Brothers of the Sword near Šiauliai. The Master and many knights were killed. The survivors were absorbed into the Teutonic Order as its Livonian branch.

## Why it matters
It was a major Baltic victory that reshaped the crusading orders.
