# Battle on the Marchfeld (1278)

On 26 August 1278 Rudolf I defeated and killed King Ottokar II of Bohemia on the Marchfeld. Rudolf gave Austria and Styria to his sons. The Habsburgs based their power in Vienna until 1918.
