# University of Prague (1348)

In 1348 Charles IV founded the university in Prague, the first in Central Europe. Universities followed in Vienna (1365), Heidelberg (1386), Cologne (1388) and Erfurt (1392). Prague was the capital of the empire under Charles IV.
