# Council of Constance (1415)

The Council of Constance (1414-1418), convened by Sigismund, ended the Western Schism by electing Pope Martin V. Despite a promise of safe conduct, the Czech reformer Jan Hus was burned at the stake in July 1415. His execution sparked the Hussite Wars.

It restored papal unity but led to decades of religious war.
