# Last Imperial Coronation in Rome (1452)

In March 1452 Pope Nicholas V crowned Frederick III emperor in Rome, the last imperial coronation in the city. Frederick ruled for 53 years, longer than any other emperor. His Habsburg marriage policy laid the basis for the family's later greatness.

## Why it matters
From Frederick III the imperial crown stayed almost continuously with the Habsburgs.
