# Prussian Homage (1525)

In April 1525 Grand Master Albert of Brandenburg-Ansbach converted to Lutheranism and secularised the Order's Prussian lands. He paid homage to King Sigismund I of Poland as Duke of Prussia. It was the first Protestant state in the world.

## Why it matters
The duchy later passed to Brandenburg and gave its name to the Prussian state.
