# Münster Rebellion (1534)

In 1534 radical Anabaptists seized Münster and proclaimed a 'New Jerusalem' under John of Leiden. The prince-bishop's troops besieged and took the city in 1535. The leaders' bodies were displayed in iron cages that still hang from St Lambert's Church.

## Why it matters
It became a warning against radical religious movements.
