# Edict of Restitution (1629)

In March 1629 Ferdinand II ordered the restoration of church lands taken by Protestants since 1552. Albrecht von Wallenstein's army enforced imperial power across Germany. The edict drove Protestant states and Sweden into resistance.

It provoked Swedish intervention and prolonged the war.
