# Assassination of Wallenstein (1634)

Suspected of secret negotiations with the enemy, Wallenstein was murdered by his own officers at Eger on 25 February 1634 with the emperor's approval. Months later the Swedes were defeated at Nördlingen. Schiller later dramatised his fall.

## Why it matters
It ended the career of the war's most powerful commander.
