# Edict of Potsdam (1685)

In November 1685, after Louis XIV revoked the Edict of Nantes, the Great Elector offered French Huguenots refuge in Brandenburg. About 20,000 settled, many in Berlin. They made a great contribution to the economy.

It set Prussia's tradition of religious tolerance and immigration.
