# Meissen Porcelain (1710)

In 1708 Johann Friedrich Böttger and Ehrenfried Walther von Tschirnhaus discovered how to make hard-paste porcelain in Saxony. Augustus the Strong founded the Meissen manufactory in 1710. It was the first European porcelain factory.

## Why it matters
Saxony broke the Chinese monopoly on porcelain.
