# Second Schleswig War (1864)

In 1864 Prussia and Austria defeated Denmark and took the duchies of Schleswig and Holstein. Prussian troops stormed the Dybbøl redoubts in April. Their joint administration soon caused friction.

## Why it matters
It was the first of Bismarck's wars of unification.
