# Battle of Königgrätz (1866)

On 3 July 1866 the Prussian army under Moltke defeated Austria at Königgrätz. Austria was excluded from Germany and the German Confederation dissolved. Prussia annexed Hanover, Hesse-Kassel, Nassau and Frankfurt.

## Why it matters
It decided the struggle for supremacy in Germany in Prussia's favour.
