# Anti-Socialist Laws (1878)

After two assassination attempts on Wilhelm I, the Reichstag passed laws in October 1878 banning socialist organisations. The Social Democratic Party nevertheless grew. The laws lapsed in 1890.

They failed to stop the rise of the workers' movement.
