# Congress of Berlin (1878)

In summer 1878 the great powers met in Berlin to settle the Balkan crisis after the Russo-Turkish War. Bismarck acted as an 'honest broker'. Serbia, Montenegro and Romania gained independence.

It made Berlin a centre of European diplomacy.
