# Treaty of Brest-Litovsk (1918)

On 3 March 1918 Soviet Russia signed a peace with the Central Powers, giving up Poland, the Baltic states and Ukraine. Germany briefly dominated Eastern Europe. The treaty was annulled after Germany's defeat.

## Why it matters
It marked the high point of German expansion in World War I.
