# Battle of Argentoratum (357)

In 357 the Caesar Julian defeated a large Alemannic army under King Chnodomar near Argentoratum, modern Strasbourg. The victory restored Roman control over the Rhine frontier for a generation. It was one of the last great Roman victories over Germanic forces.

## Why it matters
It temporarily stabilised the Rhine frontier of the late Roman Empire.
