# Deposition of Tassilo III (788)

In 788 Charlemagne had Duke Tassilo III of Bavaria condemned for treason and confined to a monastery. The Agilolfing dynasty's rule ended and Bavaria came under direct Frankish control. All major German peoples were now within Charlemagne's empire.
