# Treaty of Ribemont (880)

In 880 the East Frankish king Louis the Younger acquired the western half of Lotharingia from West Francia. The resulting border between East and West Francia remained largely stable for centuries. It defined the western limits of the medieval German kingdom.

## Why it matters
It set a Franco-German frontier that lasted into the late Middle Ages.
