# Henry the Fowler Becomes King (919)

In 919 Duke Henry of Saxony was elected king at Fritzlar, the first Saxon to hold the crown. He ruled by consensus with the dukes, built fortified towns and reorganised the army. He founded the Ottonian dynasty.

The political centre of the German kingdom shifted to Saxony.
