# Battle of Lechfeld (955)

On 10 August 955 Otto I defeated a large Magyar army on the Lechfeld near Augsburg. The Hungarian raids into Western Europe ended, and the Magyars settled and later converted to Christianity. The victory made Otto the most powerful ruler in Europe.

It secured Germany from invasion and paved the way for Otto's imperial coronation.
