# Archbishopric of Magdeburg (968)

In 968 Otto I established the Archbishopric of Magdeburg to direct missionary work among the Slavs east of the Elbe. Magdeburg, Otto's favourite residence, became a major ecclesiastical centre. Otto was buried in its cathedral.
